OUR MISSION IS TO ENABLE creators to develop work driven by justice and action
We believe in the power of art as a means for creators to problem solve, collaborate, share different perspectives, and engage others in movements driven by humanity and togetherness.
As a Brooklyn-based non-profit arts collective, we provide creators with opportunities to develop work that explores the relationship between art and activism. We aim to support those who value, in practice, the importance of storytelling as a means for connection and community engagement.
Conceived in 2012, the collective has offered access to the process and presentation of art from young, emerging, and seasoned artists for over five years, by providing opportunities to engage with dynamic, multidisciplinary programming as both creator and observer.
2017 and 2018 have been pivotal years for the collective, first launching our 5 Year Fund to build a foundation of support to take us through our next five years, followed by a re-envisioning of the collective with the goal of developing and implementing programming that expands beyond the arts, more deeply engages social justice, and better reflects the communities we aim to serve.

STAFF & BOARD
Nasrene Haj, Co-Director/CO-Founder
Nasrene is a project-based arts manager who holds a liberal arts degree from Sarah Lawrence College in Cultural Studies encompassing dance, writing and Italian studies. Her interdisciplinary education led her to found THE CREATORS COLLECTIVE in 2012 with the goal of providing artists with resources for collaborations and mentoring across age and discipline. In addition to co-directing the collective, Nasrene works as the Individual Giving Manager at Prospect Park Alliance, following positions with the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Arts Council, and other local arts and cultural organizations. Nasrene also spent four year as Chair of Teen Artists Learners and Leaders, the teen arts council at Brooklyn Arts Exchange. She welcomes the opportunity to connect and collaborate on new projects that empower both young and professional artists through the artistic process.
Gina Solebello, Co-Director
Gina is a freelance stage manager. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Musical Theatre from Marywood University, and moved to NYC in 2014 to pursue a career in the arts. Gina is the current Production Stage Manager for The Flea Theater's world premiere play, Inanimate. She has previously stage managed for the InVersion Theatre Company, and is a member of their Artistic Associate Advisory Committee. Gina worked directly with the stage management team of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater as a production assistant for three consecutive seasons. This fall, Gina will be stage managing the fall tour of Miss Nelson is Missing with Two Beans Productions.
Haley Robinson, Project Manager
Haley graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 2015, where she concentrated in dance and social sciences. In the 2013-2014 academic year, she studied at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire for dance in London, England. There she was able to hone in on her interests in community-based dance education and arts administration. Currently, she is working at Columbia University as the Administrative Coordinator in the Psychology Department as well as studying Nonprofit Management in the School for Professional Studies.
MILA PINIGIN, CO-FOUNDER
Mila Pinigin first moved to Vermont from Moscow, Russia in 1995. She received a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College in 2012 where she studied art history, contemporary dance, and visual arts. During a year abroad in Florence, Italy she studied printmaking, Italian, politics, art history, and art restoration. She held several prestigious internships with Gladstone Gallery, Artnews Magazine, and Blouin Artinfo and co-founded THE CREATORS COLLECTIVE during her time in New York. When Hurricane Sandy brought her back to the Upper Valley in Vermont she soon began working at Dartmouth College, Edgewater Farm, Revolution, and at AVA Gallery. Presently, Mila is the Director of the Aidron Duckworth Art Museum.
EMILY BARBE, Board member
Emily Barbe graduated from Indiana University in 2012 with a BA in Spanish and Communication & Culture, and she has lived in NYC since. Emily works in wealth management at Merrill Lynch, and in her free time, she loves supporting the arts, participating in races through New York Road Runners, and traveling.
CHELSEA GILLESPIE, Board member
Chelsea Gillespie is the Stage Manager for Ailey II, the second company of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. She graduated from The College of Wooster with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Theater & Dance and Sociology. Her involvement with The Creators Collective is fueled by an investment in spreading a diverse range of artistic partnerships in underexposed areas. In addition to Ailey II, Chelsea does freelance production work, most recently working with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, The Ailey School, Satellite Collective, and InVersion Theater.
ASHLEY HENRY, Board member
Ashley Henry is the Administrative Support Coordinator for the the Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation, Inc. Born and raised in New York City, she graduated from Long Island University, C.W.Post with a BFA in Dance and Iona College with a MA in Public Relations. After living in Brooklyn for a few years and seeing the great work THE CREATORS COLLECTIVE is doing, Ashley joined the board in 2017 and hopes to help with its growth and expansion.
SOPHIE PAULINE, Board member
Sophie Pauline is currently working as a sales coordinator for DISH Media Sales. She previously worked for the arts nonprofit, Young Audiences Arts for Learning, in both the marketing and development departments. This past May she graduated from Marywood University earning a degree in Advertising and Public Relations. During her time at university she was heavily involved in all parts of the theatre department, while additionally writing for the arts and entertainment section of the campus newspaper. She has recently joined the board of THE CREATORS COLLECTIVE, eager to continue administering to the arts in whatever community she find herself in.

THE CREATORS COLLECTIVE
ANAMARI GAETA is in her senior year at Sarah Lawrence College where she concentrates in Immigration Policy and Latinx Cultural Studies. Her interest in immigration stems from being raised in a Mexican-American family that engaged in advocacy for the migrant farm-working community. At Sarah Lawrence, she has co-chaired Sarah Lawrence for Immigration Advocacy where she organized events like Movement Building Training to teach student activist new skills for their work. Her academic studies led her to write a first place Spencer Barnett Prize-winning essay on 1.5 Generation Latinx cultural productions. She has worked for and with marginalized populations in her previous internship positions at the Legislative Affairs Department of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, Smith + Malek, PLLC., and WJCS Center Lane. Anamari aspires to pursue a career in immigration advocacy and write policy for a government agency or non-profit. When she is not busy writing her thesis on the representation of Mexican and Central American immigrants in art and media, she can be found playing board games with her friends.

MARGAUX MORRIS is a current undergraduate student at Sarah Lawrence College, studying politics, economics, and visual arts. Working as a commission-based oil painter since the spring of 2018, she is passionate about the ways in which the arts are able to express complex structural ideas and illuminate interconnectivity. At school, she serves as a Student Senate representative to the Committee of Student Work, creates art to pair with students’ articles as an Art Editor for the Sarah Lawrence Political Review, and acts as a jury member for the Sarah Lawrence Visual Arts Review.
