Following a successful and informative presentation about the recently passed Freelance Isn’t Free Act this past June, THE CREATORS COLLECTIVE will host another presentation on Thursday, August 3rd as part of AMPLIFY at 100 Bogart. Attorney Kyle Carraro of Lloyd Patel LLP will lead the presentation followed by an opportunity to ask questions to ensure all attendees leave with valuable information about their rights and protections as Freelancers in New York City.

THE PRESENTATION
New York City recently passed the Freelance Isn’t Free Act to create enhanced protections for freelancers whose clients refuse to pay what they owe. While freelancers previously had little meaningful recourse for bringing claims against unscrupulous clients, the Act both sets for requirements for entering into contracts with freelancers and gives freelancers meaningful remedies for enforcing their rights, including increased damages and the recoupment of attorney’s fees. The presentation will go into detail on who the Act applies to, what rights and remedies it grants, preventative measures freelancers can take to protect themselves, and how freelancers can enforce their rights.
THE SPEAKER
Kyle C. Carraro is an Associate Attorney at Lloyd Patel LLP. Kyle works on every phase of the firm’s litigation practice and in handling client matters, including tort, contractual, employment, commercial and all other areas of the firm’s practice. Before he joined Lloyd Patel LLP, Kyle represented tenants in Brooklyn Housing Court, where he received a Distinguished Service award from the New York State Courts for his work in assisting residents facing eviction. Kyle was also part of a legal team that represented an indefinitely-detained prisoner at Bagram Airbase, Afghanistan.
